ALEXANDRIA -- The Bemidji High School baseball team faced its first Section 8-3A opponent of the year Tuesday, dropping a pair of road games 3-1 and 6-4 to defending champion Alexandria at Knute Nelson Memorial Ballpark. Although the trip snapped a six-game winning streak for the Jacks (6-3), head coach Mike Fogelson was happy to simply get to play the games.
BEMIDJI -- Bemidji High School junior Croix Golden had an iffy start and a less-than-ideal finish, but everything in between went well enough for a solid round at the Lumberjacks’ home invite Monday at Bemidji Town and Country Club. Golden finished with a 79 for seventh place individually, leading the Jacks to an eighth-place team score of 345.
BEMIDJI -- Bemidji High School honored dozens of athletes at the BHS Athletic Hall of Fame banquet Monday night, inducting five into the hall of fame, announcing 12 athletic scholarships, handing out more than 80 senior varsity letters and other awards and naming the male and female Lumberjack Athletes of the Year.
BEMIDJI -- Tara Hokuf has always loved the outdoors. From joining her grandfather, father and brother as the first female to hunt in the family, to now working with multiple outdoors organizations such as North Country Guide Service, Reel Camo Girl and Pro Whitetail, she has always been involved with outdoor recreation.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School baseball team extended its win streak to six games on Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep over Thief River Falls by scores of 4-2 and 4-1 at the BSU Baseball Field. The Jacks’ lone loss on the year came in their season opener when they lost 4-3 to East Grand Forks, and they’ve been perfect ever since to claim a 6-1 record.
CROSSLAKE -- Taylor Offerdahl and Abbie Kelm each shot 151s at the two-day Pequot Lakes Invitational on Tuesday and Wednesday to finish second and third, respectively, at Crosswoods Golf Course in Crosslake, leading the Bemidji High School girls golf team to a second place score of 649 out of four teams.
BEMIDJI -- After a minor first-inning scare, the Bemidji High School baseball team used 12 hits, 13 walks and 14 stolen bases to churn out a 20-10 win over Warroad in five innings Tuesday at the BSU Baseball Field. The scare? The Warriors (2-3) took advantage of two dropped pop-ups and other BHS miscues with five runs on four hits and two walks, good for a 5-0 lead after a half inning of play.
GRAND RAPIDS -- After taking a 9-6 loss to Hermantown on Saturday at the Grand Rapids invitational, the Bemidji High School softball team used the sting from the loss to tally five runs in the first inning against Grand Rapids on the way to an 8-2 win and a 1-1 record on the day.
Bemidji High School has scheduled the 2018 Athletic Hall of Fame banquet for 6 p.m. Monday, May 7, in the BHS commons. This year’s inductees include Bob Glas, Tom Hill, Ryan Welle, Tara (Hiscock) Helleloid and Leo Eugene Cooper. Attending BHS from 1957-60, Glas was a three-year letterwinner in basketball, football and baseball. He played in two state basketball tournaments, was a member of the all-state basketball tournament team and earned all-state honors twice in basketball and once in football.
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School girls golf team battled through a cold and windy morning to secure second place out of 17 teams Friday at its home invitational at Bemidji Town and Country Club. Junior Taylor Offerdahl led the way for the Jacks, taking second place with a score of 79. The mark fell one stroke behind medalist Maddie Herzog, a senior and North Dakota State commit from Detroit Lakes.
