Ray Szmanda, longtime pitchman for Menards, dead at 91
ANTIGO, Wis. - Raymond Jack “Ray” Szmanda, known by many Midwesterners as “the Menards guy,” has died, according to his family. He was 91.
Charles Szmanda, son of Ray, confirmed his father’s death in a Facebook post Sunday, May 6.
Szmanda was the Menards spokesperson for over two decades, and was the star of countless television and radio commercials.
Szmanda’s popular bookend saying, “Save big money at Menards,” became synonymous with the popular Midwestern hardware store and is still used in commercials and advertisements today.
Szmanda was a resident of Antigo, located approximately 140 miles northeast of Eau Claire, Wis.-based Menards.
